Howland, Fitch battle to 2-2 tie in girls soccer


AUSTINTOWN — Jina Wall, a freshman, scored her first goal on an assist from Jessica Wilson to tie the contest at 1 minute, 30 seconds remaining in the game, as Howland tied Fitch, 2-2, in a girls soccer game Monday night.

Megan Long scored the Tigers first goal on an assist by Stephanie Keul in the first half.

Jen Shiley and Kayla Shuttleworth each scored a goal for the Falcons (1-0-1). Melissa Brydy and Cori Koch had an assist apiece.

Fitch attempted eight shots and Howland 11.

Casey Haering had six saves for the Tigers and Ali Polich had four saves for the Falcons.

JVs: Howland 6-0.

Springfield 8, United 1

HANOVERTON — Melissa Huffman, Carrie Ritzler and Breanne Mincher each had two goals to spark Springfield (1-0).

Allyson Berry and Ashlyn Italiano added lone goal each while Ritzler and Katie Bretz each had assist.

For United, Christine Swords had the goal and Jenna Greene the assist.

Springfield goalie Heather Cozak had three saves.

Badger 4, Conneaut 2

KINSMAN — Amelia Dereway scored two goals to pace the Braves. Taylor Phillips and Adrianna Braho added a goal apiece.

Jenna Miller had two assists and Sarah Smith one for the Braves (1-1). Katy Dvorak had eight saves.

Maggie Bayle and Christie Church each scored a goal for Conneaut (1-2), while Holly Spees had an assist. Kelsey Kehoe had nine saves.

Warren JFK 5, Maplewood 3

WARREN — The Eagles (2-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Kellie Kovac scored two goals and Adrian Ashdown and Erin McBride one apiece. Katie Rodomsky and McBride each had an assist.

Michele Sloan of Maplewood answered with two goals.

Jerrica Cooper then scored for the Eagles. She also had an assist. Tori Spencer of the Rockets (0-2) made the final goal of the game.

Helena Democopoulus of the Eagles had nine saves and Emily Paris of the Rockets had 10.

Champion 7, Liberty 0

LIBERTY — Heather Beachy had two goals and two assists and Erika Stevens two goals to lead Champion (1-1).

Jessica Craley had one goal and two assists to also pace Champion, while Marissa Walker added one goal and one assist and Morgan Loychik one goal.

Liberty (0-3) goalie Sam McKenzie had 15 saves.

Lakeview 6, Hubbard 1

HUBBARD — Nicole Bevilacqua scored two goals for the Bulldogs (1-0-1). Laura Griffith, Meghan Charnas, Daylor Pishotti and Paige Doulis each scored one.

Jordana Lima scored the goal for the Eagles (1-1).

Jen Ulam had three saves for the Bulldogs. Mariah Gordon had five saves for the Eagles.
