Campbell boy shot in face in stable condition

CAMPBELL — A 19-month-old boy shot in the face while he was on the second floor of his Jean Street home sleeping in his bed early Sunday with his mother remained in stable condition late tonight in St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Police, who said they have no leads in what they described as a random shooting, still were not releasing the name of the victim.

Young girls in the neighborhood, who said they often played with the child, said his name is Cody.

The police report lists the name of the victim’s mother as Kristina M. Wiebe.

The shooting was discovered about 6:09 a.m. Sunday when police, on routine patrol in the Jean and Jackson streets area, saw Wiebe outside screaming and holding her son in her arms.

The officers said the child had a large entry and exit wound to the left side of his face, and was conscious and alert at the time.
