MISSING LINK: The $2 million Spring Common Bridge in downtown Youngstown was about three months from completion in August 1949 when the last arch rib section was lowered into place by the Mt. Vernon Bridge Co.’s crane. Fifty-eight years later, the bridge is undergoing major refurbishing — and the background has changed dramatically. Today, a picture taken from this vantage point would show the WRTA bus station on the right, the Downtown Fire Station and Mahoning County Jail on the left and YSU’s Stambaugh Stadium on the hill.
