STRUTHERS — Junior Ashley Cuba had three goals, while junior Katie Griswald had the other tally in Mooney’s season opener at Valley Sports under first-year coach Jason Keller. Cuba, Maggie Vinopal, Dina Pelly and Alex Sierra had one assist apiece for the Cards (1-0), who led 3-0 at the half. Mooney goalie Megan McLaughlin had one save, while Lindsay Wiebold also had one save for Indian Hills (0-2). JVs: Indian Hills, 3-0

Boardman 2, Champion 0

CHAMPION — Lea Byers and Chloe Zidian scored for the Spartans (1-0-0) in the second half. Goalkeeper Cheyne Khatib made four saves. Champion (0-1) goalkeeper Beth Sayers made seven saves. JVs: Tie, 2-2

Fitch 4, Alliance 1

AUSTINTOWN — Dana Lucido, Tiarra Sanders, Christian Goleno and Sarah Ford each scored a goal for the Falcons (2-0). Tori Koch, Lucido and Kelsey Martin had an assist apiece. Kiara Ford scored the goal for Alliance. Fitch had 35 shots on goal, compared to two for the Aviators. Julie Wetirstle, goalie, had 20 saves for the Aviators.

Hubbard 7, Liberty 0

HUBBARD — Jordana Lima scored three goals while Liz Crafton added two to lead Hubbard in the season opener for both teams. Kristin Tobey and Emily Mogg each contributed one goal apiece for the Eagles while Chelsea Callow had an assist and goalie Mariah Gordon two saves.

Warren Harding 3, Badger 1

WARREN — Elena Ware had a goal and assist while Katie Talstein and Deanna Kuzenko each had one goal to lead Harding (2-1). Rachael Lamarco and Katie Polenick each added an assist. Amelia Deraway had a goal and Adrianna Braho an assist for Badger (0-1). Harding goalie Avrielle Merten delivered 10 saves while Badger goalie Katy Dvorak had 20 saves. JVs: Harding, 3-0

Lakeview 0, Howland 0

HOWLAND — After two 40-minute halves and no extra periods, Howland is 0-0-1 and Lakeview 0-0-2. Howland attempted 12 shots with Lakeview goalie Jen Ulam, a sophomore, saving five. Howland’s junior goalie, Casey Haering, stopped three of the four shots attempted by Lakeview. Howland also had the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.

Carrollton 1, Crestview 0

NEW WATERFORD — Jessica Thorton of Carrollton (1-0) scored the only goal of the game in the first half handing Crestview is second loss in a row.

BOYS

Newton Falls 3, Maplewood 0

NEWTON FALLS — Seniors Jarrod Cooper and Mike Layshock and junior Moritz Braake scored a goal apiece for Newton Falls (2-0). Junior Ted Kolacz had an assist for the Tigers, who had a 1-0 halftime lead on Layshock’s penalty kick. Braake is an exchange student from Germany. Maplewood goalie Tyler Perkins had 10 saves, while Newton Falls goalie Dave Pagano had seven saves. JVs: Howland, 3-1

Crestview 4, Carrollton 2

NEW WATERFORD — Mitchell See scored two goals as the Rebels evened their second record at 1-1. Austin Elwonger and Aaron Stewart each scored a goal and Nicholas Magill had an assist. Nathan Perry and Randy Leopold score a goal apiece for Carrollton (1-1).
