YOUNGSTOWN — The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, will host a screening of the award-winning movie “Paper Clips” at 11 a.m. Sept. 7. The documentary tells the story of a class at a Tennessee middle school that collected six million paper clips to better understand the magnitude of this crime against humanity and the Jewish people. Six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

First Night seeks acts
for New Year’s event
YOUNGSTOWN — First Night Youngstown is seeking performers for the annual New Year’s Eve event. Performances will take place from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at various locations downtown and in the university area. All performers are guaranteed payment.
Dance groups, specialty acts (clown, jugglers, mimes, magicians, puppeteers), storytellers and other entertainers geared toward children, musical groups (pop, jazz, blues and country), theater troupes and poets are needed.
Applications must be accompanied by a photo, cassette, DVD or CD, and a biography. Materials, which are non-returnable, must be current and a live audition may be requested.

Woman wins concert
by country singer
HERMITAGE, Pa. — Sara Addicott of Hermitage, Pa., has won a private concert by country music singer Julie Roberts.
Schwan’s Consumer Brands North America of Minneapolis sponsored the contest, which drew thousands.
Addicott, who is married and has four grown children, is a long-time country music fan. The concert will take place on Tuesday in Sharon, Pa. As part of her winnings, Addicott is able to invite up to 100 guests to the private concert. She plans to invite all of her family and friends.
Stambaugh Chorus
to hold auditions
YOUNGSTOWN — Auditions for the Stambaugh Chorus will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Stambaugh Auditorium. Audition appointments can also be made by calling (330) 881-9517. Auditionees must bring a piece of music.
Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 at Stambaugh Auditoriumthroughout the fall, winter and spring, begining Sept. 4.
Greenville Symphony
announces season
GREENVILLE, Pa. — Michael Gelfand, music director of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, has assembled three concerts for the upcoming season.
The first concert will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 7. Entitled “Ole!,” it will include special guests Eric Schrader and the Greenville High School Steel Band. The theme is “South of the Border.”
For the second concert, at 3 p.m. Feb. 2, the vocal group GACT will perform patriotic music. There will be a special narration of “Casey at the Bat.
The final concert will be 3 p.m. April 13, and will include the Thiel College Choir directed by Dr. Michael Bray along with the piano duo of Oltmanns and Wilding.
All performances are in the Passavant Center on the campus of Thiel College.
Moscow Ballet seeks
kids for ‘Nutcracker’
YOUNGSTOWN — Moscow Ballet will hold an open children’s audition for its
“Great Russian Nutcracker” at 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at Ruth’s Robics &
Dance, 5626 South Ave. Moscow Ballet soloist Anna Tyuytunnik will conduct the audition. Applicants must have at least one year ballet experience and be between 7 to young teens. They must dress in ballet attire and bring pointe shoes, if on pointe.

Hungarian Heritage Day

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown American Hungarian Club will celebrate its annual Hungarian Heritage Day Sept. 9 at the clubhouse, 2219 Donald Ave. Entertainers will include Andrew Check, who plays the cimbalom, a Hungarian instrument. Also featured is a display by 12-year-old Kayla Pupio depicting the Hungarian Revolution. The Hungarians, a band from Cleveland, will play both American and Hungarian favorites.
The menu consists of Hungarian goulash, stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, chicken, cabbage and noodles, kolbasz and sauerkraut and various pastries, including crepes and dobos torta.
Items for sale will include preserves, spices, noodles, clothing, books, cards and more.
