LONDON — A British newspaper splashed photos of singer Amy Winehouse bloody and bruised across its Friday edition after she reportedly had a fight with her husband. The photos, supposedly taken early Thursday, showed Winehouse wearing blood-soaked ballet shoes, with bruises to her neck, bandages on her arms and makeup smeared down her face. A gossip Web site reported that Winehouse had said her injuries were self-inflicted. Police confirmed they had been called to an incident at a London hotel by a concerned member of the public but said no charges were filed. The singer announced Tuesday that she was postponing her upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour dates after she canceled August performances because of “severe exhaustion.” Britain’s Press Association said the couple were staying in the hotel after leaving a drug rehabilitation clinic in Essex, east of London. The Daily Mail also published photos of Winehouse together with her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, after the reported fight. His face and neck were covered in scratches.

‘Cincinnati’ actor faces
drunken-driving charge

JACKSON, Mich. — Austin Nichols, the title character in HBO’s “John From Cincinnati,” was arrested early Friday on suspicion of drunken driving. The 27-year-old actor was stopped by police about 2:40 a.m. after being spotted driving a silver Mercury Mountaineer the wrong way down a one-way street in the city, said Jackson police Lt. John Holda. An officer smelled alcohol and, after conducting sobriety tests, took Nichols into custody. A breath test later indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.10 percent, Holda said. The legal limit for drivers in Michigan is 0.08 percent. Nichols, who also appeared in “Deadwood,” was held at the Jackson County Jail and released about 8:40 a.m., said Jackson County sheriff’s Lt. Carl Carmoney.
