Fire district gets $197,655 grant from FEMA

CANFIELD — The Cardinal Joint Fire District has received $197,655 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, chief Bob Tieche said.

Tieche said he was notified officially Friday by U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich’s office.

“We’re very, very pleased,” Tieche said, adding that a lot of work went into writing the grant. The grant was written by fire district personnel.

Tieche said the fire district has to spend the money within one year.

He said plans are to upgrade breathing apparatus; replace a 25-year-old air generator that makes air for the apparatus; and install a new vehicle exhaust system in the garage at the main station on Lisbon Street.
