Deadline nears for science competition


NEW YORK — The deadline to enter the nation’s most prestigious science research competition for high school students is fast approaching.

Entries for the 2007-08 Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology must be received by 5 p.m. Oct. 1.

Online registration is available at www.siemens-foundation.org. Students unable to complete the online process may call (800) 626-9795, Ext. 5849 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.

The Siemens Competition, in its ninth year, awards more than $700,000 in college scholarships each year ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 in individual and team categories.

The high schools of students selected as regional finalists are also recognized with a $2,000 award per project.

The annual competition is administered by the College Board. Entries are judged at the regional level over three consecutive weekends in November.

Winners of the regional competitions are invited to compete at the National Finals at New York University in New York City, Nov. 30 through Dec. 3.

The New Jersey-based Siemens Foundation distributes more than $2 million in scholarships, awards and grants annually. The Foundation is dedicated to providing scholarships and increasing access to higher education for gifted students in science, mathematics and technology-related disciplines.
