Summer Sizzler to offer cars, cruises, family fun


All events in downtown New Castle are free to the public.

PORTERSVILLE, Pa. — A weekend of classic cars, hot rods, family fun, food and cruises is planned for today through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cooper’s Lake Campground off U.S. Route 422.

The cruise tonight will be from Cooper’s Lake to downtown New Castle for Friday Night LIVE at the Riverwalk. 

The Michele Goodman Studio will present The Junior Model Search Fashion Show from 7 to 7:15 p.m. followed by the music of Michelle Becker and Broken Arrow. Those attending should bring their own chairs or they may sit on the large chair-size boulders available at the Riverwalk. 

The streets will be blocked off and all classic cars and hot rods will park on East Washington Street. Spectator parking is free in the New Castle Area Transit Authority lot and at Washington Center. 

All events in downtown New Castle are free to the public.

Summer Sizzler continues Saturday at Cooper’s Lake with the performance of The Lawrence County Brass Band at 10 a.m. and The Dorals at 1 p.m. The stage and seating are under cover. Froggy 95.1 will be on the grounds throughout the day with contests and giveaways.

Sunday’s events

The Rev. Ted Saad from Word of Life Christian Fellowship will begin Sunday at Cooper’s Lake with a short nondenominational church service at 9:30 a.m. The fun continues with Street Fair, a Pittsburgh area band, performing at 1 p.m. 

The evening car cruise will leave for Cranberry Township Park at 5 p.m. for a “Movie in the Park.” R.D. Summers from 3WS - 94.5, will be on hand until 6 p.m. Live music begins at 6:30 p.m. and the movie, “Hollywood Knights,” will begin at dusk.  All events in Cranberry are free to the public.

Music throughout the weekend at Cooper’s Lake will be performed by DJ Tony Tunes. 

Trophies will be awarded for the top 10 categories, Best of Show and People’s Choice. 

Admission for spectators is $5 per person. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Participant admission is just $25 for the weekend, which includes the driver, passenger and one vehicle on the grounds for the entire weekend. Camping is also available.
