Cracking down

The problem: The Humane Society of the United States says as many as 40,000 people may be involved in dogfighting around the country.

The action: Three men sentenced to four years each in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court as efforts by authorities to crack down on dogfighting.

The future: Animal welfare advocates expect law enforcement actions to increase even more with efforts under way to strengthen federal and state laws on dogfighting.
