The annual Scottish and Irish Feis is planned this weekend at Geneva-on-the-Lake’s Old Firehouse Winery. Cuyuga, an eclectic Celtic band, opens the event at noon and there will be continuous entertainment Sunday as well. Among performers will be the Royal Scottish Dancers and Jennie May School of Dance at 3 p.m. Among entertainers Sunday will be Burke School of Dance of Youngstown at 3 p.m. and John Hoyle, Irish tenor, at 6.
Local playwright David Anthony of Youngstown will present his first effort, “Unfaithful,” at 7:30 p.m. in Stambaugh Auditorium. Doors open at 7. The faith-based play focuses on faithfulness in relationships. Tickets are available at Stambaugh’s box office for $5 in advance and $10 at the door.
j The Mahoning River Blues Festival will be today and Sunday at B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave., near downtown. The festival will be both indoors and outdoors, and lawn chairs are welcome. Gates open at 1:30 p.m., and admission is $7. The musical lineup of dozens of bands includes Jessica Lee, of Pittsburgh; Triple Threat, Youngstown; FX Project, Sharon; The Real Deal Blues Band, Cleveland; Sleepin Dogz, New Castle; Leo Clark Squad, Columbus; Damian Knapp, Warren; Short Fuse, Hubbard; Blue Slade, Youngstown; Kidney Brothers, Youngstown; the Burnt Barrel Blues Band, Youngstown; and Danielle Lyn, Struthers. The bands will compete for a spot in the annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis in February.
This is the last day of the Shaker Woods Festival. The annual event features craftspeople, dressed in Shaker period clothing, offering their wares in a cool, manicured, wooded area. The crafters demonstrate their skills without the use of modern conveniences, including electricity. Crafts include woodworking, blacksmithing, Shaker reproductions, woodcarving, basket weaving, broom, leather tooling and more. Entertainment includes cloggers, country and bluegrass bands, gospel groups and barbershop quartets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6.50 (children 12 and younger are free).
