Brookfield residents are
fed up with board actions

EDITOR:

Regarding the Aug. 14 article, “Lawsuit: Remove three members of Brookfield board,” let me first state that I am not an S.O.S. member, a teacher or family member of one. I am simply a resident of the school district who, by my own judgment, willingly signed the recall petition against board members Joe Pasquerilla, Steve Varga and Dean Fisher.

“Pasquerilla said S.O.S. is a small, vocal group, the majority of whom are teachers or the relatives of teachers who are unhappy about losing their jobs or taking a wage cut.” This is a fabrication by board President Pasquerilla in an attempt to make himself out to be the victim in this “mess” created by him and his two lackeys. The majority of the S.O.S. committee is made up of parents and concerned citizens.

I would just like to list a few reasons why many of the residents of Brookfield actually signed the petition recall.

No board member (Pasquerilla) has the right to enter a school building making threats, personal and employment wise, against a teacher or staff member. Oh, let’s add also, No board member (Pasquerilla) has a right to enter a school, screaming at and making demands from any staff member.

No one, two or three (Pasquerilla, Varga and Fisher) board members have the right to interview and hire employees without the knowledge of the other two board members prior to the interviews being done.

According to the Ohio School Board Association’s Web site, this is the way board members are supposed to act:

“Perhaps the most important responsibility of a school board is to employ a superintendent and to hold him or her responsible for managing the schools in accordance with the school board’s policies”. This simply means the trio (Pasquerilla, Varga and Fisher) are not in charge of managing the schools. The OSBA also states: “Board members do not manage the day-to-day operations of a school district”; they see to it that the system is managed well by professionals. “No one person, unless authorized, should speak on behalf of the board.”

“A board member should be a skilled decision maker; however, decisions are only made by the board as a whole at a public meeting”. It is evident that the three violated this by the way the new principals, the new superintendent and Frank Baker were hired. Again, the OSBA also states: “They do not evaluate staff, other than the superintendent and treasurer, nor do they become involved in employment interviews, other than those of the superintendent, business manager and treasurer.”

Since Mr. Pasquerilla took his seat as board president, he tried to do nothing more than “micromanage” our school district, on his own and, quite frankly, the majority of the parents and residents of Brookfield Township are tired of it.

Judge not lest ye be judged

EDITOR:

Why doesn't it surprise me that a pious, self-righteous Christian is the first to cast a stone? I also read the Aug. 6 article about JoAnn Radovich, whose son died and has communicated with her. It did not seem to me that she was attempting to drag anyone over to the dark side. I felt she was just trying to cope and was helping others to do the same.

If the writer of an Aug. 13 letter about that story is such an outstanding Christian, why is he so quick to instigate a witch hunt rather than showing some compassion and sympathy? Did he miss the commandment to love one another? Did he forget that after Jesus died and was buried he appeared to several people and spoke to them? Has he ever read the story about the Pharisees that Jesus cast out of the temple for presuming to judge others? God was displeased that they presumed to usurp his and only his power to dispense eternal judgment.

I suggest that the letter writer lighten up and show a little love instead of passing judgment, because ultimately he will be standing before God right next to JoAnn and only God knows who will rise and who will descend. Don't presume to outguess him.
