Babe Ruth all-stars fall, 9-7, in World Series


PURCELLVILLE, Va. — The Youngstown all-stars fell to West Fargo (N.D.), 9-7, in the Babe Ruth 13-year-old World Series Sunday.

Youngstown (1-2) rallied from a 5-2 deficit by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but West Fargo (1-1) scored four runs in the top of the sixth.

In the Youngstown fifth, Rick Jones hit a two-run single and Brad Smith came on as a pinch-hitter and had a two-run triple.

Winning pitcher Tanner Dahl had the go-ahead RBI for West Fargo in the sixth.

Youngstown finished with 10 hits; James Coates, Forrest Perron and Justin Wagler all had doubles.

Youngstown is off until Tuesday night, when it plays the host team from Loudon County, Va., at 8 p.m. Youngstown must win that game to have a chance to advance to the six-team bracket, which begins Wednesday, that will decide the champion.
