SIXTY YEARS AGO: Jimmy Mollenkopf, left, Kenny Bryan and Richard Mollenkopf, all of Petersburg, sack oats in the threshing process at the H.S. Withers farm in Petersburg. Already in the late 1940s, threshing of wheat was becoming obsolete. It was replaced by combining, a system that cuts and threshes wheat in one operation. Mahoning County boasted a wheat crop of 300,000 bushels in 1947.
