Offensive/defensive Formations: Multiple offense/over-under defense

Outlook: The Cardinals return 18 letterwinners from last year's Division IV state championship team, including five starters on offense and six on defense. Their top three offensive threats -- quarterback Danny McCarthy (a Notre Dame recruit), running back Brandon Beachum (Penn State) and fullback Michael Zordich (Penn State) -- return and the fourth member of the Big Four, Taylor Hill, should see more time in the backfield. All four also play defense. Mooney must replace its entire offensive line but return wideouts Tim Marlowe and L.J. Sutton. John Simon, Brandon Ericsson and Greg DeNiro will carry the load up front and Vinnie Patella is one to watch in the secondary. The Cardinals have the talent, the tradition and the numbers (the senior class alone has 28 players) to make them a state title threat but with a brutal schedule and inexperience in the trenches, the younger players will need to grow up fast.
