Actress Christie will accept award at Aspen

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Julie Christie will accept the Independent by Nature Award at the 29th annual Aspen Filmfest.

She will receive the award, which recognizes individualism and creative risk-taking, Sept. 29, festival organizers said.

Previous recipients include Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, Anjelica Huston and William H. Macy.

“We are honored to celebrate this exceptionally gifted actor,” said Laura Thielen, executive director of Aspen Film, in a statement. Aspen Film produces the yearly event.

Christie, 67, won the best-actress Oscar in 1966 for “Darling.” Her screen credits also include “McCabe & Mrs. Miller,” “Doctor Zhivago,” “Afterglow” and “Away From Her,” about a woman stricken with Alzheimer’s.

The Aspen Filmfest is Sept. 26-30.
