Farmers dividend

CANFIELD — The Farmers National Banc Corp. Board of Directors has declared a cash dividend of 16 cents per share on its common stock, payable Sept. 28, 2007, to shareholders of record on Sept. 14, 2007.

Smucker earnings up

ORRVILLE — J.M. Smucker Co., the leading U.S. producer of jams and jellies, said Friday earnings jumped 42 percent in the first quarter as sales were strengthened by a recent merger and demand for the company’s peanut butter. Net income for the quarter ended July 31 rose to $40.8 million, or 71 cents per share, from $28.7 million, or 50 cents per share, during the same period last year. Results include restructuring and merger costs of 1 cent per share. On May 1, Smucker completed its acquisition of Eagle Family Food Holdings Inc., a maker of sweetened condensed and evaporated milk.

Wheeling-Pitt to borrow

WHEELING, W.Va. — Struggling steelmaker Wheeling-Pittsburgh Corp. found a way to ease its cash crunch Friday, announcing it has an agreement with its banks to borrow an extra $125 million, expanding the company’s revolving credit facility to $350 million.

Wheeling-Pitt — which employs about 3,000 people in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania — also has an agreement to borrow an additional $135 million and replace a government-guaranteed loan. As of June 30, however, the company owed $193.6 million on that loan.
