MLB ROUNDUP \ Wednesday’s other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Orioles 6, Yankees 3, 10 innings

NEW YORK — Miguel Tejada hit a tie-breaking double off Mariano Rivera in the 10th inning and Aubrey Huff added a two-run homer to lead Baltimore past New York. Shelley Duncan’s three-run homer with two outs in the ninth sent the game to extra innings, but the Orioles bounced back quickly against Rivera (3-4). Alex Rodriguez went 4-for-4 for the Yankees, who remained five games behind first-place Boston in the AL East.

Devil Rays 6, Red Sox 5

BOSTON — Al Reyes struck out Manny Ramirez with two on for the final out, helping starter Andy Sonnanstine end an eight-game losing streak. Sonnanstine (2-8) won his second major league start on June 10 at Florida, 9-4. He hadn’t won since, and in his previous two outings he was 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA — he failed to get out of the fifth both times. On Wednesday, he allowed three runs and four hits in 62⁄3 innings. Carlos Pena drove in three runs and the Devil Rays scored five in the first three innings, matching their total for the previous 39 and snapping their three-game skid.

Twins 6, Mariners 1

SEATTLE — Torii Hunter hit a tie-breaking single in the eighth inning and a grand slam in the ninth for Minnesota. Hunter’s single off rookie Brandon Morrow also came with the bases loaded, after starting pitcher Jarrod Washburn (8-10) threw wide of first base for an error on Nick Punto’s sacrifice. That put runners at second and third, and Joe Mauer was intentionally walked before Hunter lined Morrow’s first pitch for his 80th RBI. In the ninth, Seattle again walked Mauer intentionally with two outs to load the bases. Hunter then hit his ninth career slam, this one off Sean Green.

Blue Jays 2, Angels 1

TORONTO — Shaun Marcum won his fifth straight start and Alex Rios had three hits for Toronto. Marcum (10-4) retired the first eight batters before Reggie Willits singled in the third. He gave up one run and four hits, walked one and struck out six. Marcum left after walking pinch-hitter Erick Aybar to begin the eighth, the first hitter he walked in 29 innings. Jeremy Accardo worked the ninth for his 23rd save.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Braves 6, Giants 3

ATLANTA — Tim Hudson got his eighth straight win despite giving up Barry Bonds’ 759th homer and being called for a couple of balks. Bonds went deep on the first pitch of the sixth inning. Hudson (14-5) gave up three runs and eight hits in eight innings and he went 2-for-3, including a run-scoring single in the second that gave the Braves a 2-0 lead. Hudson was twice called for balks by first-base umpire Angel Hernandez. Braves manager Bobby Cox was ejected for disputing the first one, the 133rd ejection of his career.

Diamondbacks 9, Marlins 6

MIAMI — Chris Snyder hit a two-run homer for Arizona, which won for the 18th time in 23 games and improved to 5-1 against the Marlins this season. Eric Byrnes, Mark Reynolds and Orlando Hudson all had three hits, and Doug Davis (10-10) allowed seven hits and four runs over 51⁄3 innings to win his fifth straight decision. Jose Valverde pitched a hitless ninth for his 36th save. Byrnes doubled twice and drove in two runs, while Reynolds singled three times for the second straight games and is batting .474 over the past 10 games.

Nationals 4, Phillies 2

WASHINGTON — Tim Redding drove in two runs and limited Philadelphia to two runs and three hits in six-plus innings to lead Washington. Redding (2-3) gave up a leadoff home run to Jayson Werth in the third and singles to Ryan Howard and Wes Helms. He struck out seven and walked three in winning for the first time in six starts. Redding’s two-run double in the second was his second hit of the season and his first RBIs since June 19, 2003. Washington added two runs in the sixth on a run-scoring double-play grounder and Ryan Church’s 10th home run which knocked out Kyle Kendrick (5-3), who allowed four runs and seven hits in 52⁄3 innings.

Cardinals 8, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE — Scott Rolen had the eighth four-hit game of his career and Albert Pujols hit his 275th home run to back St. Louis’ Joel Pineiro. The Cardinals closed within 31⁄2 games of the NL Central-leading Brewers and will go for the three-game sweep today. Pineiro (2-1), acquired in a trade with Boston on July 31, gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings for his second straight victory. Rookie Yovani Gallardo (4-3) gave up seven runs and nine hits in 52⁄3 innings — including home runs to Pujols and Rolen in the first inning. Pujols’ 25th homer of the season made it 1-0, and Rolen followed a single by Jim Edmonds with his eighth homer, a two-run shot. Bill Hall of the Brewers hit a solo homer in the second, breaking a 27-game, 105 at-bat homerless streak, but the Cardinals got an RBI double from Yadier Molina in the fourth and then pulled away with three runs in the sixth. Edmonds added a homer in the seventh — his first since June 9 — putting St. Louis ahead 8-1.
