Trumbull coroner decides not to run again

WARREN — Trumbull County Coroner Dr. Ted Soboslay has decided not to run for re-election next year, after 20 years in office.

Dr. Soboslay announced Tuesday that he will finish his current term as coroner and fully support his forensic pathologist, Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, as his successor.

This is Dr. Soboslay’s fifth term. He said Dr. Germaniuk has been employed by him since 1998 and he believes he can do the job. “I like him,” he said.

He said that he’s leaving the office in good hands and that he knows that Dr. Germaniuk will be able to handle any investigations and autopsies after his term is up.

Dr. Soboslay, a Democrat, said that when he started his job as coroner 20 years ago the office “was a mess.” He said he has since created a modern office and has served the community as well. “I really appreciated the opportunity to serve this long as coroner,” he said.

Dr. Soboslay said that he knows he wants to do something after he retires but that he’s not sure what.
