NEW RESTRICTIONS For Ohio teen drivers

A “graduated license” law restricting beginning teen drivers took effect in Ohio on April 6. Here are some of the rules:

Probationary driver license holders under age 17 can’t operate a motor vehicle with more than one passenger who is not a family member, unless accompanied by the license holder’s parent, guardian, or legal custodian.

Probationary license holders between 17 and 18 years old are restricted from driving between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent or guardian, unless there is an emergency, or the driver is going to or from school or to or from work (employer documentation required).

Probationary license holders under 17 are prohibited from driving between midnight and 6 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent or guardian, with the same exceptions.
