Man gets 18 years for rape, theft

YOUNGSTOWN — A 20-year-old Brentwood Avenue man charged in attacks on women here and in Campbell is going to prison for 18 years on robbery, rape, kidnapping and felonious assault charges.

In imposing the prison term on Ivory Young on Monday, Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court adopted the nonappealable sentence that had been agreed upon by the prosecution, defense and victims. Young pleaded guilty to the charges in June.

On Dec. 23, 2006, Young dragged a woman by her pony tail, raped her, and robbed her of $300 and two winning lottery tickets at gunpoint behind a Glenwood Avenue discount store on her 21st birthday, said Dawn Krueger, assistant county prosecutor.

On March 27, Young robbed an elderly Campbell woman of $20 outside her residence, dragged her to her car and forced her into it. He then drove the car to an ATM, forced her to get out and withdraw $20 from the machine, and robbed her of that money before pistol-whipping her on her head, leaving her behind and fleeing in her car, Krueger said.

When he leaves prison, Young must register annually as a sexually oriented offender and report address changes to the sheriff for 10 years.
