Taste of the Valley event is successful

YOUNGSTOWN — More than 400 guests attended the 16th annual Taste of the Valley fundraiser at Stambaugh Auditorium where more than $42,000 was raised and will be used to feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Participating were 31 of the Valley’s finest restaurants, and local businesses and individuals purchased tickets, sponsored tables, and donated items for a live auction.

Chefs from outside Mahoning Valley served as judges, and recipients of awards were the following restaurants:

• Best overall — Spread Eagle Tavern and Inn.

• Best appetizer — Winner Institute.

• Best entrée — Shelton Mathews Chocolatierand Café.

• Best dessert — Poland Bake Shoppe.

Funds raised at the event will be used by Second Harvest Food Bank to relieve hunger. Each day the food bank distributes 20,000 pounds of food to 170 hunger relief programs in the three-county area.
