YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s National Night Out celebration, canceled earlier this month because of heavy rainfall, is rescheduled for Sept. 21.

Building suffers damage

STRUTHERS — A South Bridge Street business suffered window and structural damage Sunday after being struck by a drunken driver.

According to police reports, Casey E. Clarkson, 28, of Leetonia, was arrested not far from the scene driving a Cadillac Eldorado with a smashed rear windshield. Clarkson’s blood alcohol level was reported to be 0.185 percent, or almost twice the legal limit. She was arrested and released on $2,000 bond, according to reports.

Three women arrested

BOARDMAN — Police arrested three women outside of a Doral Drive discount store.

Sandi Weaver, 21, of Truesdale Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with robbery and lodged in the Mahoning County Jail. She’s also accused of fighting with store security.

Two other city women, Nina Sanchez, 20, of East Myrtle Avenue, and Anna Yohman, 20, of West Boston Avenue, were charged with complicity to theft. Both were released on summonses.

Police were called to Wal-Mart about 6:45 p.m. Friday, where security personnel were fighting with people in the parking lot.

One of the security guards told police that he saw Weaver concealing merchandise while the other two women tried to shield her from view. When the guard tried to detain her, Weaver fought, a police report said.

Cleanup grant awarded

CAMPBELL — The city has received a $30,000 grant to clean up an arson site on 12th Street near Robinson Road.

Formerly a vacant multitenant businessplace, the building has been in ruins since May. Mayor John Dill said he received word Monday that the city was awarded a community development block grant for the cleanup project.

Man assaults trooper

GROVE CITY, Pa. — A Masury man is in the Mercer County Jail accused of assaulting a Pennsylvania State Police trooper. Police said Raymond Foster Jr., 42, was involved in a car crash at the intersection of Scrubgrass and Springfield Church roads on Sunday.

After being arrested on driving under the influence charges, Foster was taken to United Community Hospital in Grove City. Police said while at the hospital, Foster kicked a state trooper in the chest. Foster was taken to the county jail where physical force had to be used to restrain him.

In addition to DUI, Foster is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of the administration of law enforcement and or government function and disorderly conduct. He remains in jail after failing to post $40,000 bond.

Salem YWCA director

SALEM — The Salem YWCA has named Dr. Susan K. Hays as its interim executive director.

Hays joined the organization last week following the resignation of executive director Victoria Curran.

“Dr. Hays’ extensive experience in leading nonprofit and public organizations and advocating for issues of importance to women, children and people of color positions her well to lead the Salem YWCA at this exciting time,” said Salem YWCA President Sondra O’Donnell.

Hays has 28 years of senior management responsibility in the not-for-profit and public sectors.

She has a bachelor of science degree from Mount Union College and a juris doctorate degree from Pettit College of Law, Ohio Northern University.
