Man faces multiple rape counts

YOUNGSTOWN — Opening statements will be at 9 a.m. today in the trial of a Campbell man facing 18 counts of rape and nine counts of gross sexual imposition, with two girls as the alleged victims.

Jury selection was completed Monday for the trial of John E. Wolff Jr., 31, of Notre Dame Drive. The charges allege Wolff had sexual contact with two young female relatives in his residence.

The offenses against the first girl — 13 counts of rape and seven counts of gross sexual imposition — are alleged to have occurred between January 2000 and April 2006, while she was between the ages of 9 and 14.

The offenses against the second girl — five counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition —are alleged to have occurred between April 2000 and November 2001, while she was 13 and 14 years old.

If Wolff is convicted of any of the first 10 rape counts, which allege he engaged in sexual activity with the first girl before her 13th birthday, he could serve life in prison. The other rape counts each carry a three- to 10-year prison term, and the gross sexual imposition counts carry between six months and five years in prison.

Wolff is free on $20,000 bond.
