Court denies Budd’s appeal

YOUNGSTOWN — The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has affirmed the judgment of a federal jury and denied the appeal of Michael J. Budd, once second in command at the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department.

The appellate court’s decision was released Monday.

In 2005, the jury found Budd guilty of violating the civil rights of three jail inmates. The 46-year-old Boardman man, who once held the rank of major, was sentenced to eight years in prison. He is incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, N.C. with a projected release of Aug. 4, 2012.
