Woman faces gun charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Sheila Ingram, 32, of the 300 block of Byron Street, was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits and endangering children and then taken to Mahoning County jail after an incident about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said they found three spent .38-caliber shells on the couch as well as a hi-point 40-caliber semiautomatic pistol on a dresser that was loaded with six rounds and one in the chamber and another weapon, a Taurus .38 special with five live rounds, hidden in a couch cushion. Ingram told police she took the .38 special from someone after a fight. Neither gun was reported as stolen. Police also found a live round in Ingram’s front pants pocket.

Police responded to a report of gunfire at Byron and Rigby, and witnesses told them that the shooter was in a red, brick building. A woman at the scene, Ingram’s mother, told police she was there with her other daughter’s children, ages 6, 7 and 9. They were there to clean out her other daughter’s apartment because she is incarcerated, the woman said. Ingram’s mother told police she also had called the children’s father to help. When he arrived, Ingram began shooting at him, police said. The three children were outside, the report said, screaming and crying as Ingram fired. Ingram told police she had a restraining order on the man but could not produce it. The report noted that Ingram told police she didn’t shoot at the man and said “he’d be dead because I’m a good shot.” Ingram said she fired into the air beside the house and has fired her guns outside on previous occasions, the report said.
