Poland man assaulted
POLAND — A 42-year-old Poland man was assaulted in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 3000 block of Center Road, where he had a previous confrontation with the attackers. The police report said the victim was about to enter the store when he was confronted by two men who threatened him with knives. The victim suffered lacerations and cuts on both arms, wrists, hands and face. He was treated at the scene by medical personnel and also said he would seek further treatment. The attackers, estimated to be in their late teens or early 20s, fled east on U.S. 224 in a white vehicle. The victim told police he was in the store about a month ago and the same two men were harassing store employees and he had intervened.

YOUNGSTOWN — Two women, Amanda Emery, 25, of Lincoln Street, Sharon, and Sonia McKelvey, 25, of Standard Avenue, Masury, were charged with assault and a man, Steven Luckett, 32, of First Street, Masury, was arrested after an incident at 2:30 a.m. Sunday in and outside of a bar in the 30 block of West Federal Street. Police stopped the women, who were accompanied by two men, as they were walking at Hazel and Federal. A security person at a bar called police and said women were fighting in the bar. He managed to get them outside but on the way out they grabbed a glass candle holder and martini glass and threw it at the security person. McKelvey also punched the security person with her fist twice. When police stopped the group, Luckett interfered with police business and was arrested and taken to Mahoning County Jail. The women were to appear in Youngstown municipal court this morning.
Man charged in assault
YOUNGSTOWN — Jesse Martz, 24, of North Turner Road, Austintown, was charged with felonious assault and theft of a motor vehicle after an incident at 2:32 a.m. Sunday at a parking lot of a bar in the 2800 block of Mahoning Avenue. The victim told police she offered Martz a ride but when they got to her car, he pushed her aside and got into the driver’s seat. The victim’s companion, another woman, was already in the passenger seat and jumped out. Martz pulled out and struck the second woman with the open door, causing cuts to her elbows and legs. He also hit a pickup truck in the parking lot. He fled west on Mahoning and was stopped by the Ohio State Highway Patrol at Mahoning and Four Mile Run Road.
Scrap tire pickup
HOWLAND — The township will conduct a curbside scrap tire pickup Saturday. Residents should place tires curbside by 8 a.m. A limit of eight passenger tires per household without rims will be hauled away. Truck tires will not be picked up.
Photography contest
EAST LIVERPOOL — Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will be sponsoring a photography contest in conjunction with Harvest Days at Beaver Creek State Park that will be held Oct. 6 and 7. All photos must have been taken in Beaver Creek State Park. Photos entered in the 2006 contest are not eligible. All photos must be 8 x 10 inches and matted to no more than 11 x 14 inches. The two categories for the photos are “Nature” and “People in Beaver Creek State Park”. The entry fee is $5 per photo with a limit of three photos per person. Prizes will be awarded in three divisions: Children, teen, and adult.
