Thompson 60th is celebrated in North Carolina


XBOARDMAN — Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thompson, 4916 Grover Drive, were honored on the occasion of their 60th anniversary with a surprise party held May 20 at North Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, N.C.

Hosts for the celebration were the couple’s daughters and their spouses, Sandra and David Dunbar of Raleigh, Patricia and Wickham Flower II of Berlin Center and Sherri Ligotti of Boardman. Completing the family are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The former Geraldine Yvonne Blank and Mr. Thompson were united in marriage May 20, 1947, at First Christian Church in Youngstown. They are members of Disciples Christian Church.

Mrs. Thompson was employed by Peoples Bank and Eatna Standard Engineering Co. She is a past matron of Trias Chapter 523, OES, and past president of Triettes Auxiliary of OES and LB Circle of OES. She is president of the Together Group and belongs to a monthly card club.

Mr. Thompson served in the European Theater during World War II. He worked at Republic Steel and retired in 1997 after 49 years of employment with Mahoning Valley Supply Co. He is a charter member and past master of Poland Lodge 766, a 32 Degree Mason, a member of Poland Breakfast Club, and past patron of Trias Chapter 523 OES. He is also a past associate guardian with Job’s Daughters, Bethel 82, in Poland.
