Task force makes impaired driving arrests

CANFIELD — The Mahoning County OVI Task Force arrested three impaired drivers at the Friday evening sobriety checkpoint in Canfield Township.

One felony arrest for a loaded gun also was made. There were 1,177 vehicles checked. There also were two driving under suspension arrests, one for no operators license, four restraint citations (including two for lack of child restraints), and five minor misdemeanor arrests.

The Mahoning County task force will be joining with thousands of other law enforcement and highway safety agencies across the nation from Aug, 17 throughout the Labor Day holiday to take part in the “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest” crackdown on impaired driving.

This year's effort by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is supported by $11 million in paid national advertising to help put everyone on notice that if they are caught driving impaired, they will be arrested.
