The 23rd annual Warren Italian American Heritage Festival opens and runs through Sunday at Courthouse Square in downtown Warren. There will be Italian food, music and vendors.
WYSU and Youngstown Film will continue the free Summer Classic Film Festival with “Shane” at 7 p.m. in the auditorium in DeBartolo Hall (Room 132) at Youngstown State University. The movie, based on the 1949 novel of the same name by Jack Schaefer, is one of the great American westerns. Released in 1953, the film stars Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur and Van Heflin. “Shane” tells the story of a weary gunfighter who attempts to settle down with a homestead family but who is drawn into a fight for homesteaders’ rights against a cattle baron.
The BreezeWay performs at 9:30 p.m. in a free show at the Timberlanes of Salem and follows up with another show at 9 p.m.. Saturday at the Flying Pig Saloon in Salem. The band, originally from Salem, now is based in Nashville.

The Shaker Woods Festival, marking its 25th year, opens this weekend and continues Aug. 18-19 and 25-26. The craft festival features more than 200 artists and craftspeople from across the country. “Rediscovering the Ceramics of Ron Pivovar” opens with a public reception from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave., New Castle, Pa. Pivovar, who has been a potter for some 40 years, also taught at Thiel College, Greenville, Pa., from 1967-2000. The show continues through Sept. 28. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Buc Wyld, a country band, will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Judge Morley Pavilion as part of Mill Creek MetroParks 7UP Summerfest Spectacular. The concerts are free.
The 16th annual Brier Hill Italian Festival is planned Aug. 16-19 at Calvin and Victoria streets in Youngstown. Proceeds will benefit ITAM Memorial Post 12 on Calvin Street.
