FARRELL, Pa. — Police are still piecing together the events that led to the disappearance and surprising return home of a 24-year-old woman.

Lt. Chris Hosa of the Mercer County Regional Police said he briefly spoke to Danielle Morton after being informed by family that she returned home Tuesday.

Morton, a mother of three young children, had been reported missing June 16 by her parents and other family members. She was last seen in Farrell, near Sharon.

Hosa said she was apparently in a coma after being robbed in a Chicago bus station. The string of events is still being investigated by police, but Hosa said they don’t expect any criminal charges to be brought in this jurisdiction.

According to Hosa, Morton traveled by bus to the state of Indiana. The reason for her travels and not informing her family of her plans are not clear, he said. From Indiana she was traveling by bus to New York, but had a stop in Chicago. In Chicago she was robbed and injured, the detective said.

Still unclear

Hosa said they have not yet determined how long Morton was in a coma since she is still recovering from her injuries. Morton contacted her mother Saturday, and her mother sent money enabling Morton to take a bus home to Farrell on Monday, he said.

Hosa said family and law enforcement are pleased that she made it home.

“It was a shock when I talked to her mother on Tuesday and she said Danielle was home,” Hosa said.
