High winds causes damage in Salem
SALEM — Firefighters said that about 200 cars appear to have had their windows broken-out due to high winds at the Salem Giant Eagle.
A transformer and a pole were knocked down by the wind behind the store, which damaged a propane tank that has since been sealed.
Firefighters said there have been reports of trees down throughout Northern Columbiana County. Fire officials said they don’t know if the damage was caused by a mini-tornado or a microburst, formerly known as a downdraft, a sharp blast of air moving downward.
The damage occurred at about 1:23 p.m. today.
A Salem firefighter also said the storm caused damage to a number of other buildings in Salem, including the Bob Evans restaurant on East State Street.
