Boardman’s Schiffauer accepts MSU offer
BOARDMAN — For Courtney Schiffauer, once a Spartan, always a Spartan.
Wednesday, Boardman High girls basketball coach Ron Moschella announced that his top senior has committed to a scholarship to attend Michigan State University
“Courtney is one of the best and toughest players I have ever coached,” Moschella said. “Her intensity is infectious.
“She has helped to continue the tradition of our program to maintain its success.”
The daughter of Bob and Marcia Schiffauer, Schiffauer carries a 3.2 grade-point average and has three varsity letters.
During her freshman year, the six-foot tall Schiffauer played a pivotal role as Moschella’s qualified for the state semifinals, Boardman’s only appearance in Columbus.
In her sophomore and junior seasons, Schiffauer has received many honors, including making first team All Federal League and first team All Northeastern Ohio.
By averaging 25 points a game, Schiffauer is the 10th Spartan to surpass the 1,000-point mark.
Moschella says Schiffauer “has become a versatile player who can perform at all five positions on the basketball court. She has also grown into the leader to her team.”
Among the schools that have recruited Schiffauer are Penn State, Kent State, Ohio University and Marist College.
Schiffauer is the second Mahoning Valley player in five seasons to receive a Michigan State scholarship. Ursuline 2004 graduate Courtney Davidson plays for the Big Ten’s Spartans.
