Valley firefighters get federal funding
Two Mahoning Valley fire departments have received federal money through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Award.
The Struthers Fire Department received $82,783, and the Perry Township Fire Department in Columbiana County got $39,039.
The funds will be dispersed to the fire departments “to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards,” says a release from U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, a member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Three other Ohio fire departments also received funding, bringing the Buckeye State’s total federal assistance to $466,797.
