Township hopes sewer work will go forward
WARREN — Southington Township Trustees Sam Plott and Bob Reader hope a resolution that Trumbull County commissioners promised to approve today will eliminate a hurdle holding up progress on the township’s effort to get sewer lines constructed.
The two trustees met with commissioners Tuesday. They say the engineering company they hired to determine the feasibility of getting sewers found that the city was unwilling to provide information on the rates it would charge to accept the township’s sewage until it had written permission from the county to do so.
The commissioners’ resolution will give that permission.
Plott said that when the study being done by Lennon Smith and Sourlet of Coraopolis, Pa., is complete, a public hearing will be set to tell residents how much it will cost to provide them.
Gary Newbrough, county sanitary engineer, estimated the cost at around $20 million for the first phase of the project serving 600 homes, or around $33,500 per property owner. Plott and Reader said they are exploring grant options to bring down that cost.
