Teenager with handgun is apprehended

YOUNGSTOWN — After a foot chase, city police captured a 16-year-old boy who was seen with a handgun in a playground at Kimmel and Kenneth Streets on the city’s East Side about 7:20 p.m.

When four police officers approached the teen, who was sitting on a park table at the north end of the White Playground, he ran and jumped the playground fence. The suspect fled through the rear yards on Kenneth and Gray Street, where police saw him through a dark handgun.

The teen was caught on Kimmel, and officers found a revolver with six live rounds under a parked truck along Gray. The boy is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and disobeying the order of a police officer. He was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center, police said.
