Rainfall levels varied across Valley
YOUNGSTOWN — Craig Beach, with 2.88 inches of rain on Tuesday, had the most precipitation in the tri-county area.
Nowhere here was as hard-hit as the Cleveland area, which was inundated with 3.33 inches of rain Tuesday — the ninth-most rainfall in a calendar day on record, said Will Kubina, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service at Cleveland’s Hopkins International Airport.
Its records go back to 1871.
Elsewhere in Mahoning County Tuesday through early Wednesday morning, 1.42 inches fell at the Canfield Fairgrounds; 1.11 inches in North Lima; 0.64 of an inch in Beloit; and 0.32 of an inch in Youngstown.
Other areas recording high amounts of rain during the same period were Brookfield Township in the southeast corner of Trumbull County, with 1.43 inches; and Mesopotamia Township in the northwest corner of Trumbull, with 1.88 inches, Kubina said. The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna, also in Trumbull, recorded 1.21 inches of rain, and Mosquito Lake had 0.24 of an inch.
In Columbiana County, rainfall was uniformly light, with Salem recording 0.63 of an inch; Summittville, 0.48; Union, 0.51; and Crestview, 0.60, Kubina said.
With the latest rain, the Youngstown-Warren area climbed close to normal precipitation for the year, down only 0.66 of an inch. However, since June 1, the area is 1.48 inches below normal, Kubina said.
