Purse: TBA ($6.8 million in 2006). Winner’s share: TBA ($1.224 million in 2006).

Television: TNT (Thursday-Friday, 2-8 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.) and CBS (Saturday-Sunday, 2-7 p.m.).

Last year: Tiger Woods won the last of his 12 major titles, beating Shaun Micheel by five strokes for his second PGA Championship victory at Medinah and third overall.

Last week: Woods won the Bridgestone Invitational for the third straight year and sixth time overall. He closed with a 5-under 65 at Firestone for an 8-under 272 total and an eight-shot victory over Rory Sabbatini and Justin Rose. Woods earned $1.35 million for his 58th career victory and 14th in 25 WGC events. ... Steve Flesch won the Reno-Tahoe Open by five strokes for his third career PGA Tour title.

Notes: Retief Goosen won the last major at Southern Hills, beating Mark Brooks in a playoff in the 2001 U.S. Open. Tommy Bolt (1958 U.S. Open), Dave Stockton (1970 PGA), Hubert Green (1977 U.S. Open), Raymond Floyd (1982 PGA) and Nick Price (1994 PGA) also won majors on the Perry Maxwell-designed course. ... The event ends the race for automatic spots on the Presidents Cup teams. ... The 2008 tournament will be played at Oakland Hills in Michigan and the 2009 event is set for Hazeltine in Minnesota. ... The Wyndham Championship is next week in Greensboro, N.C., followed by The Barclays — the start of the FedExCup playoffs — in Harrison, N.Y.

NATIONWIDE TOUR

Northeast Pennsylvania Classic

Scranton, Pa.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Glenmaura National Golf Club (6,993 yards, par 71).

Purse: $500,000. Winner’s share: $90,000.

Television: None.

Last year: Craig Bowden won his third career Nationwide Tour title, closing with an 8-under 63 and beating Jess Daley with a par on the first hole of a playoff.

Last week: Brad Elder won the Wichita Open for the second time, finishing with a 6-under 65 for a four-stroke victory. Elder also won the 1999 tournament.

Notes: Five-time PGA Tour winner Blaine McCallister won the 2003 event with a tournament-record 19-under 265 total. ... The Xerox Classic is next week in Rochester, N.Y., followed by the National Mining Association Pete Dye Classic in Bridgeport, W.Va.
