TORONTO — Bobby Abreu drove in four runs and Roger Clemens threw six shutout innings before being ejected for hitting a batter and New went won its fifth straight. Melky Cabrera of the Yankees had two doubles and a triple for his second straight three-hit game. Alex Rodriguez was hit on his knee by a pitch from Toronto’s Josh Towers in the third as the benches and bullpens emptied twice in the inning. Clemens (4-5) plunked Alex Rios in the middle of his back leading off the seventh with New York ahead 7-0. Clemens and Yankees manager Joe Torre were ejected by plate umpire Angel Hernandez. Top prospect Joba Chamberlain made his major league debut for the Yankees and Jason Giambi returned after more than two months on the disabled list. Called up from Triple-A before the game, the 21-year-old Chamberlain pitched the final two innings. Giambi pinch hit in the ninth and grounded into a fielder’s choice. Towers (5-9) gave up five runs and nine hits over five-plus innings.
Tigers 9, Devil Rays 6
DETROIT — Rookie Ryan Raburn had two RBIs and scored the go-ahead run in the three-run eighth for Detroit. The Tigers led 6-1 after six innings, but Jonny Gomes tripled and scored in the seventh the hit his second career grand slam in the eighth to tie it. Raburn led off the bottom of the eighth with a double off Dan Wheeler (0-1). He scored on a groundout by Curtis Granderson and Placido Polanco followed with a run-scoring single and Sean Casey had an RBI double to make it 9-6. Magglio Ordonez homered and drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers, who have won two straight following a season-high five-game skid. Todd Jones pitched the ninth for his 30th save. Carl Crawford had four hits and Dioner Navarro hit his fourth homer for Tampa Bay, which has lost eight straight road games and 19 of 21 away from home. Tampa Bay’s Jason Hammel remained winless in 13 career starts, giving up five runs and 10 hits in four innings.
Mariners 10, Orioles 3
BALTIMORE — Raul Ibanez had two homers and four RBIs and Seattle’s Jeff Weaver earned his first win since June 25. Ibanez had gone 31 games and 116 at-bats without a home run until he his solo shot in the second off Steve Trachsel. He added a two-run drive off Jamie Walker (1-2) in the seventh and doubled in a run in the eighth. Jose Guillen got four hits for the Mariners, who have won seven of 10. Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-5, his ninth three-hit game of the season. Weaver (3-10) allowed three runs and 11 hits in six innings. He was winless in his last six starts, had lost four straight decisions and was 0-5 on the road. Weaver left with Seattle trailing 3-2, but the Mariners took the lead with a three-run seventh. Ramon Hernandez had three hits and two RBIs for the Orioles.
Royals 5, Twins 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mark Teahen had four hits for his third straight multihit game, Brian Bannister won his third straight decision and the Royals defeated Minnesota. Teahen went 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and scored one run. He is 9-for-13 in his past three games. Teahen tied his career high with the four hits, doing it for the sixth time, and second this season.
Rangers 8, Athletics 6
ARLINGTON, Texas — Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in the tiebreaking run with a sixth-inning double and Kason Gabbard went six innings to earn his first win with Texas, leading the Rangers. Mark Ellis homered and had three hits for Oakland. Shannon Stewart also went deep.

Braves 7, Mets 3
NEW YORK — Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer and Matt Diaz added a solo shot to lead Atlanta, the Braves’ seventh win in 10 games against the Mets this season. The second-place Braves moved within 31⁄2 games of the Mets in the National League East and Atlanta Braves finally beat Oliver Perez. Perez (10-8) had all three New York wins over Atlanta this season, but the Braves reached him for six runs and 10 hits in five innings. Diaz, Atlanta’s second batter of the game, hit his eighth homer of the season. Francoeur’s 13th homer made it 6-0 in the third.
Phillies 11, Marlins 1
PHILADELPHIA — Ryan Howard homered twice to back Philadelphia’s Jamie Moyer. Moyer (10-8) allowed one run and five hits in six innings, and had an RBI double in a five-run third inning. Hanley Ramirez hit the first pitch of the game for his 20th homer, but Moyer settled in nicely after walking the next two batters. The 44-year-old left-hander retired 13 straight batters at one point and won his third straight decision. Moyer improved to 6-0 in six career starts against Florida. J.D. Durbin pitched the final three innings for his first career save.
Reds 4, Dodgers 0
CINCINNATI — Bronson Arroyo pitched into the seventh inning and combined with three relievers on the eight-hitter as Cincinnati ended its nine-game losing streak against Los Angeles. It was 97 degrees at the first pitch, the hottest start for a game in the five seasons at Great American Ballpark. The Dodgers lost their fifth in a row, their longest losing streak of the season, and have dropped 14 of their last 19 overall, a slump that has dumped them from first to third in the NL West.
Astros 5, Cubs 2
HOUSTON — Craig Biggio drove in the go-ahead run in a four-run sixth inning for Houston as Chicago lost its second straight game since Alfonso Soriano went on the disabled list. It was the third straight loss for the Cubs, who have dropped five of their last six. The hit was Biggio’s 3,023rd, tying him with Lou Brock for 22nd on the all-time list. Woody Williams (6-12) allowed one run and four hits in six innings, striking out seven. Brad Lidge pitched the ninth for his seventh save, all since he was activated from the disabled list on July 12. Sean Marshall (5-6) lost for the third time in his last four starts.
Padres 4, Cardinals 0
ST. LOUIS — Jake Peavy extended his scoreless streak to 19 innings, and San Diego got its major league-leading 16th shutout of the season. Peavy (12-5) allowed three hits in six innings, struck out five and walked two, improving to 6-0 with a NL-best 0.89 ERA in nine road starts. His 2.21 overall ERA in second in the majors behind San Diego’s Chris Young (1.82). Cla Meredith, Heath Bell and Doug Brocail finished the five-hitter for the Padres, who lead the major leagues with a 3.50 ERA. No other team had more than nine shutouts entering the night. Only one of the Padres’ shutouts was a complete game, a five-hitter by Greg Maddux against Cincinnati on May 14. Josh Bard hit a go-ahead single in the seventh off Anthony Reyes (1-12).
