Strickland creates group to study Ohio agriculture

COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland signed an executive order today creating a new farm-policy group to study Ohio agriculture and provide advice on ways to improve production, processing and consumer access.

The Ohio Food Policy Advisory Council will analyze all segments of the farming industry “from its most basic level of production through processing and to the market,” Strickland said at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, where he announced the initiative.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture will administer council, which is to be composed of representatives from state agencies, the Legislature and various farm- and food-related groups, including the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, the Ohio Farmers Union, American Farmland Trust and the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association, Strickland said.
