Man hurt on 4-wheelerin Columbiana County
LISBON -- A 30-year-old man was being picked by a helicopter about 10:15 p.m. Sunday after he was injured in a four-wheeler accident, according to the Columbiana County Sheriff's Department.
The accident occurred off McCormick Run Road in southern Madison Township near state Route 39.
The department said it was not sure where the man was being taken for treatment. No further details on the crash were available.
Foundation elections
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Community Foundation had 2.1 million at the end of 2006. The announcement was made at the recent 21st annual membership meeting of the foundation, which has 160 members.
Treasurer Lynn Stewart's annual financial statement said scholarships and grants that benefited the community and its residents totaling 24,854 were awarded during 2006.
Trustee Norman Spiker was re-elected to a third three-year term; and Carol Czarneski, Mark A. Hutson, Charles Ready and Judge Carol A. Robb were elected to second three-year terms.
In the quarterly trustees' meeting, the 2007 elected officers were Spiker, president; Nels Scheel, vice president; Stewart, treasurer; Jean Zeigler-Barrow, secretary. Judge Mark A. Frost, Peggy J. Oberholtzer, Richard Sell and Helen M. Barrow, the founder, complete the 12-member board.
Applications and grant requirements are available from the secretary at the foundation's office at 11 S. Main St. from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by calling (330) 482-3825. Applications are screened by a committee and presented for vote at each quarterly meeting of the trustees. Applications must be received no later than June 1, to be considered at the July 24 trustees meeting.
Safety awareness
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, will offer a program on safety awareness at 7 p.m. May 8. Detective Toby Meloro of Liberty Police Department will speak on personal and home security including identify theft. Vendors sought forSpring Garden Market
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Business & amp; Retail Association is looking for vendors for its Spring Garden Market during "Springtime In the Village" on Saturday.
Market hours are 8 a.m. to noon, and it takes place along Main Street. The association is looking for vendors of flowers, fresh baked goods, crafts, foods, furniture, etc. Church groups are welcome. The cost will be 10, which will cover advertising and insurance for vendors.

Charity golf tournament
SALEM -- The Pottery Area and North Columbiana County Chapters of the American Red Cross are hosting a charity golf tournament May 12 at Beaver Creek Meadows Golf Course.
Prizes include a 500 first prize. Prizes are given through sixth place.
The cost is 75 per person for a four-person scramble and includes greens fees, cart, lunch and beverages. Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. Priority is given to earliest entries. The deadline for entries is Friday.

Council honors Cugini
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City council has named the concession stand at Gaston Park in honor of the late Anthony Cugini. Cugini worked as a city employee and served as parks and recreation director. Council presented the resolution to Cugini's wife, Joni, and son, Anthony.
