Symphony Chorus to present concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Don Megahan, will present a spring choral concert titled "Rejoice!" at 7 p.m. May 19 at St. John Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. Richard Konzen will accompany.
Selections will include several opera choruses: Verdi's "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" and "Anvil Chorus"; "Humming Chorus" from "Madame Butterfly" by Puccini; "Neighbors' Chorus" by Offenbach; and Wagner's "Bridal Chorus." Solo selections will include: "O Mio Babbino Caro" from "Gianni Schicchi," Stephanie Champion, soprano; "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" from Rinaldo, Elizabeth Crowll, soprano; "Vilja" from "The Merry Widow," Rosemary Minghetti, soprano; and "Se Vuol Ballare" from "The Marriage of Figaro," Jerry Stephens, bass.
Beethoven's "Hallelujah" from Mount of Olives" will be performed under the direction of Linda Rein, assistant conductor.
The chorus will also perform Benjamin Britten's "Rejoice in the Lamb." Soloists for the Britten piece are Carole Conatser, soprano; Leigh Altier, alto; and Margaret Franklin, tenor. Additionally, Mozart's "Allelujah" will be presented.
A reception will follow the concert, which will be presented in memory of chorus member Jill Fromm.
