Breakdowns open door for Irish



West Branch took a doubleheader from Salem.
STRUTHERS -- Two bases-loaded walks plus a throwing error helped the Ursuline High baseball team score three runs in the ninth inning Saturday to defeat Poland, 7-6, at Cene Park.
Ross Revella's two hits included a triple for the Irish (13-3). Todd Finn and Nick McCartney each had two hits, with one of Finn's being a double. Joel Wielbruda also doubled.
Trent Vallinger's ninth-inning double helped the Bulldogs take a 6-4 lead. Matt Pitzulo's three hits included a double.
West Branch 9-11, Salem 3-2
BELOIT -- Shawn Linder's three hits included a double for the Warriors (15-3) in the first game. Willy Graham and Eric Stull had two hits including a double. Bo Beegle also had two hits.
Bobby Spaulding and Sean McKee combined to pitch a three-hitter.
For the Quakers, Danny Fortner, Brandon Holland and McKee had hits.
In the second game, Gregg Shadle's three hits included a double and drove in four runs. Tyler Newhart had two hits and three RBIs.
For Salem, David Wright, Chip Hank, Holland and Jim Armeni had singles.
Lowellville 14-17, Chaney 3-7
STRUTHERS -- In the first game, Jerrod Donatelli had three hits and scored four runs for the Rockets (11-5).
Ryan Gruber's three hits included a triple and he drove in four runs. John Opincarne's two hits included a double and he drove in five runs. John Calderone also doubled.
For Chaney, Joe Morales doubled.
In the second game, Mike Demetro had three hits and two RBIs while Gruber and Jeremy Gruber each drove in three runs.
Columbiana 9-12,Jackson-Milton 4-13
COLUMBIANA -- The Clippers built a 6-2 lead by the end of the third inning of the first game of the doubleheader. Eric Kissel, Josh Weikert and winning pitcher Tyler Soudder had two hits apiece. Ryan Clawson hit a double for the Bluejays.
The Bluejays (9-9) rallied for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning of the second game and scored the winning run in the seventh.
Matt Shields hit a home run, two singles, scored twice and drove in three runs for Jackson-Milton. Rob Easton hit a double and two singles and scored twice and Mike Nagy hit two singles and drove in two runs. Chris Stewart hit a double and single and Nate Cooper two singles for the Clippers.
Newton Falls 6-9, Southeast 4-26
RAVENNA -- In the first game, The Tigers broke a 4-4 tie as they scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Aaron Walker paced the Tigers with a double. Kyle Johnston hit a double for the Pirates.
The Pirates (4-11) pounded out 20 hits in the second contest as they scored nine runs in the first inning, seven in the third and nine more in the fourth.
Nick Hopkins hit three doubles and drove in four runs to pace the Pirates.
Chris Perecer hit a double and single for the Tigers (3-13).
Massillon Perry 13, Fitch 0
AUSTINTOWN -- Jaren Fink pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts while Aaron Thompkins had two singles to spark Perry (8-5, 5-3) in a Federal League game.
Perry scored nine runs in the first inning.
Fink is now 3-1 Fitch fell to 8-9, 3-5 FL.
