Teachers needed for call-in show

The homework help show was nominated for an Emmy last year.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Homework Express is looking for a few good teachers.
The homework help show produced at Youngstown State University is planning to expand from two live shows per week to three this fall.
Producers are seeking to build a racially diverse team of teachers to help kids learn math, and they are inviting middle school and high school math teachers to audition for a spot on the Homework Express team. Teachers are paid for their participation.
Auditions will be 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the television studio on the second floor of Bliss Hall at YSU. No preparation is needed, and classroom attire is appropriate.
Homework Express teachers take questions live during the show from children in the community. Questions come primarily from middle school kids, but teachers have fielded questions from youngsters in grades two through 10.
The teachers write the problems down on a large smudge board in the studio and guide the caller through the problem.
Aim of show
The show's primary mission is to help children in the community to earn high scores on achievement tests and the Ohio Graduation Test. Show content is linked to Ohio Academic Content Standards.
The crew of Homework Express consists of university students in the telecommunication studies major.
In addition to taking live phone calls, Homework Express offers features on science, history and topics of interest to teens in the community. The show's field crew also often visits schools to videotape school events.
The show is seen on local public access channels on Time Warner Cable and Armstrong Cable.
Last year, Homework Express was nominated for an Emmy by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. For more information, visit the Homework Express at www.homeworkexpress.org.
