OVI checkpoint results noted


DAMASCUS — Police stopped 877 vehicles in four western Mahoning County checkpoints Friday evening, arresting one person on a drunken-driving charge and issuing 33 citations for nonuse of seat belts and five citations for lack of child restraints.

The checkpoints in Goshen and Smith townships were operated by officers from the Mahoning County OVI (operating a vehicle impaired) Task Force.

Police also seized three vehicles and made three arrests for driving under license suspension and four misdemeanor arrests, including one for having an open alcoholic beverage container.
