Board appoints bond underwriter

GREENFORD -- The South Range Board of Education has appointed A.G. Edwards and Sons as the district's bond issue underwriter should residents approve the bond issue the board has placed on the May 8 ballot.
If voters approve the issue, the board would borrow 20.4 million, plus interest, through the sale of bonds to help pay for building an all-grades school.
The school district is looking to work with the Ohio School Facilities Commission to build a new facility on district-owned property along state Route 46.
The OSFC would pay for 52 percent of the new school building's cost. To make the plan happen, residents must agree to a 7.9-mill bond issue -- 7.4 mills to raise 20.4 million for the district's contribution to the construction project and a 0.5-mill levy for permanent improvement funds.
Earlier this year the board selected the architectural firm Ricciuti, Balog & amp; Associates of Youngstown to help design the building if the bond issue passes.
Superintendent Dennis Dunham said residents will soon be able to see architectural drafts and designs of the proposed construction project.
"But anything produced now likely will change over time, as we go farther along in the plans," he said. "What we have now is preliminary."
