Man knocked out of wheelchair is arrested
WARREN -- Police arrested a man in a wheelchair, after a relative reportedly knocked him from the chair with a car.
Police reported being sent to Maxwell Avenue Northwest about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to find John D. Gunther Jr., 43, of Maxwell, on the ground out of his wheelchair.
Gunther told police he and his cousin got into an argument, and his cousin left in the car. Gunther wheeled to the corner of Maxwell and Riverview Drive to see if his cousin had really left the area.
He told police he saw the relative speed toward him in the car. He said he was struck once but couldn't remember anything after being hit.
Witnesses told police the cousin struck Gunther three times with the back of his car and Gunther fell, unconscious.
His cousin hasn't been charged as the crash remains under investigation.
Gunther, however, was arrested on a warrant charging him with assault in Cuyahoga County.
