Kansas City wins 3-0 in MLS home opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Eddie Johnson, Kerry Zavagnin and Yura Movsisyan scored to help the Kansas City Wizards beat Toronto FC 3-0 in rainy conditions Wednesday night.
The Wizards, playing in their home opener, improved to 2-1-0. Toronto FC fell to 0-3-0 and has yet to score a goal in its three-game franchise history.
In the fifth minute, Johnson headed a near-perfect cross from Sasha Victorine past goalkeeper Greg Sutton for his second goal of the season.
The Wizards had numerous other chances to score in the first half, while Toronto had difficulty mounting an attack.
Kansas City went ahead 2-0 in the 55th minute when Zavagnin took a rebound off a shot by Carlos Marinelli and scored from the top of the Toronto penalty box.
It was Zavagnin's first goal since October of 2003, when he scored on current Wizards keeper Kevin Hartman.
Movsisyan put the game out of reach in the 70th minute when he took a pass from rookie Michael Harrington, beat Toronto defender Marco Reda and fired past Sutton for his first MLS goal.
