Junior League's traveling mural to be at museum

YOUNGSTOWN — The 2006-2007 provisional class of the Junior League of Youngstown will create a traveling mural depicting the “Past, Present, and Future of Youngstown.”

The task of painting the mural will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and again on May 6 at the Children’s Museum of Youngstown, 139 E. Boardman St.

The mural will be painted in six 4x6-foot sections that can be moved to different venues around the city.

The project embodies the spirit and positions of the Junior League on voluntarism, children, education, individuals who have made an impact on Youngstown, and revitalization.

Bob Barko, president of Steel Town Studios, has been assisting and sketching the mural on masonite boards. He will also oversee the painters both days. Eddie Davidson, a league sustainer and an art teacher at Boardman High School, has assisted in coordinating the student component of the mural. Gift certificates and supplies for the mural have been donated by Home Depot, Star Supply, Sherwin-Williams Co. and Pat Catan’s.

Members of the provisional class are Danielle Battafarano, Holly Bezon, Lori Crofford, Katie Ensley, Melanie Koontz, Stephanie Ouzounian and Stacie Shepard.
