Glass artist to visit
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Robin Spindler of the Fenton Art Glass Co. of West Virginia will visit the Hummel Gift Shop from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. She will demonstrate the painting techniques she uses to decorate Fenton products as well as meet with collectors.
Customers can purchase Fenton items hand-painted on the spot by Spindler.
Show to benefit rocker
YOUNGSTOWN -- A benefit concert featuring several local bands will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at Irish Bob's, 3602 South Ave., for Rick Young, a local musician who recently underwent open heart surgery. Young was a member of the rock band Special Forces and is now a member of Krazy Bone. Admission is 5.
Americana music
SALEM -- The Kent Salem Community Choir will present An Americana Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the KSU-Salem City Center Auditorium
The free concert will celebrate America's musical heritage with selections of many styles including hymns and spirituals, folk songs, musical theatre and vocal jazz. Music by such composers as Stephen Foster, Aaron Copland, and Richard Rodgers will be featured, and members of the choir will perform as soloists on several songs.
The KSU-Salem City Center is the former Salem Middle School, 230 N. Lincoln Ave.
Spring choral concert
LISBON -- The Lisbon Community Chorus Spring Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the David Anderson High School Auditorium.
The concert will be conducted by Tom McKenna and will feature soprano Corrine Morini.
Tickets are 5 and are available at Morgan's Drugstore, Bye & amp; Bye Hardware and Gray Kodrich Supply Inc.
Vocal group DVDs
SHARON, Pa. -- Copies of the 2004 induction ceremony at the Vocal Group Hall of Fame are now on sale. The nonprofit group is selling two compact discs and one DVD of the ceremony through its Web site, VocalGroup.org ,or by calling (724) 983-2025. The cost is 20.
Dana choral concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Dana School of Music will present its annual spring choral concert at St. Columba Cathedral at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Subtitled "Spiritual Journey," the concert will feature parts of Mendelssohn's famous oratorio "Elijah" and a tapestry of folk songs, spirituals and gospel songs.
Dr. Hae-Jong Lee of Poland, assistant professor of music, is the director. Ensembles will include the Dana Chorale, University Chorus, Women's Chorus, Men's Chorus and Symphonic Choir. Special guest singer will be Dr. Allan Mosher of Canfield, professor of music at Dana. The Dana Brass Quintet will accompany.
Choral accompanists will include Karen Lyn Fisher and Diana Yazvac, both of Boardman.
Admission is 5 for adults and 2 for senior citizens and students. Children under 12 and YSU students are free.
